Tarpon's Discovery Playground reopens with ribbon cutting ceremony

TARPON SPRINGS - Children are back to romping around Discovery Playground.The popular park, part of the Tarpon Springs Sports Complex, officially reopened Monday after undergoing about a month of renovations and updates to its equipment and surrounding areas.The $162,750 project helped the playground remain compliant with safety requirements as well add new features.Much of the castle-themed park was rebuilt, and the Tot Lot, for younger visitors, was redesigned.Monday's reopening featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor David Archie and other city commissioners, as well as families from around the surrounding area.Children from the Tarpon Springs Recreation Summer Program and the Tarpon Springs Cops and Kids Summer Program were also shuttled over to spend a day testing out the new equipment.Discovery Playground, originally constructed in 1997, is off of Jasmine Avenue.
