TARPON SPRINGS - Six area policing partners are primed and ready to hit the streets and take a bite out of crime.

Exactly half of those pairings may literally do as much.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office K-9 Compound held a graduation ceremony last Thursday at which six K-9 units from Pinellas and Hernando counties received certification for completing a four-month training program.

Among the six agencies represented was Officer Tommy Nguyen and his dog Dobies from the Tarpon Springs Police Department.

The others were two new Pinellas County Sheriff's Office units and ones from Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg police departments and another from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

According to a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office press release, the four months of training includes teaching the dogs obedience commands, bite work, search work and tracking and human odor response.

Some of the six dogs may advance their training to the and explosive detection.
