Pasco girl accused of school bus fight gets expelled

The Pasco County School Board voted today to expel a 17-year-old Mitchell High student who reportedly assaulted another student on a school bus last month in a case that gained notoriety because a video of the attack appeared on Facebook.

The girl is expelled for the remainder of the school year.

She was arrested last month on a battery charge in connection with the Feb. 1 attack on Chase Cristia, 16, who was sitting in the back of the bus, the sheriff's office reported.

A 16-year-old girl who recorded the fight on her cell phone and posted the video to Facebook also was charged. That girl was suspended from school.

Cristia did not fight back, deputies said. She covered herself with her arms as she was being struck on the head and shoulders. She did not suffer any serious injuries, the sheriff's office reported.

The confrontation was rooted in an incident that took place earlier in the day, according to Tracy Cristia, Chase's mother. While at school, the girls made fun of Chase's friend and she stood up to them (813) 371-1853 Twitter: @RBlairTBO
