Sunlake’s workhorse on the mound guided the Seahawks into the Class 5A state semifinals with another gutsy performance Tuesday night at Citra North Marion. The senior gave up just three runs over 8 innings and struck out nine during the extra-inning win.
Castillo has been one of Pasco County’s premier pitchers this season, owning a 2.12 ERA and striking out 97 batters over just 76 1/3 innings. He is also one of Sunlake’s top producers from the batter’s box.
The Seahawks had never even been in the postseason prior to this year and they now find themselves two wins away from a state title.
