Cobi Johnson, Chris McCormick and P.J. DeJesus combined to pitch a no-hitter Wednesday night during Mitchell’s 9-0 win at Gulf High School.
Johnson, a Florida State University commit, started the game and tossed the first three innings and McCormick and DeJesus each threw two innings to close out the night.
The trio struck out 11 Buccaneers batters, with Johnson’s six leading the way. McCormick fanned three and DeJesus sat down two.
The night’s only minor blemish was a walk surrendered by McCormick.
Mitchell provided its pitchers with a 7-0 lead after three innings and cranked out 10 total hits on the night. Johnson also starred at the plate Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored.
Eddie Goscicki and Marcus Begg, both seniors, hit home runs for Mitchell, as the Mustangs racked up seven extra-base hits.
Mitchell (16-3) is now off until Tuesday when it hosts Class 6A District 10 rival River Ridge at 7 p.m.
Gulf travels to Fivay this Friday for a 7 p.m. District 5A-8 contest.
