A Virginia man was killed Tuesday night when he walked into the path of a car while crossing a Palm Harbor road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 38-year-old Jonathan Barron, of Newport News, Va., was crossing Curlew Road in the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection with U.S. 19, from south to north, when he was struck around 10:15 p.m.

The FHP said Barron was crossing against a signal and walked into the path of a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 46-year-old Cheryl Lynn Hoffman, of Clearwater.

Barron was transported to Bayfront Medical Center, where he later died, the FHP said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and Hoffman was not injured, the FHP said.
