A Pinellas Park Fire Department paramedic, still jailed after his arrest last week on drug charges, resigned on Wednesday.

James Allen Comer, 38, of Largo, had been working as a firefighter and SWAT medic for the department.

After receiving a tip, detectives said, they arranged a drug purchase from Comer last week and arrested him in the parking lot of Northside Hospital, where he also works part time as an emergency room nurse.

Detectives said Comer sold and was in possession of eight different types of prescription pills, including morphine, Xanax, hydromorphone and oxycontin.

He was arrested on eight counts of sale of a controlled substance and eight counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He was being held Thursday at the county jail on $200,000 bail.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
