Pinellas elementary students get new online resources

Published:

An online initiative launched this week by the Pinellas County School district aims to keep elementary students learning well after the school day is over.

Beyond the Classroom is an online aggregate of free, educational programs available to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the school district’s website. The programs include FCAT Explorer, which preps students for the standardized test, ST Math, a computer game that teaches math skills, and InSync Education, which provides more than 1,200 educational activities for students to do in the classroom or at home.

Other programs focus on boosting student achievement in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. In the coming weeks, the school district will release similar resources for students of all grade levels.

Later this month, the school district also plans to distribute thousands of laptops to third- and fourth-grade students at every Title I elementary school — schools with large concentrations of low-income students.
