TARPON SPRINGS — Like a heavyweight hopeful announcing a challenge to his next competitor, Florida Hospital North Pinellas is calling out colon cancer.

Hospital officials will hold a press conference at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the main lobby to “issue a formal proclamation in the fight against colon cancer,” a media release states.

The hospital is undertaking the initiative in partnership with Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs, along with a number of media outlets, including CBS Outdoor, Spectrum Print Communications and WDUV 105.5 FM.

The public service campaign, “Keep Your Colon Happy,” aims to educate the public on the second leading cause of cancer deaths of both men and women in the United States.

The campaign will promote the importance of screening colonoscopies how routine checks can help ensure the disease can be treated and cured.

More detailed information can be found on the initiative’s website at

Florida Hospital North Pinellas is at 1395 S. Pinellas Ave.
