Dunedin Mayor Eggers to seek county commission seat

Published:

CLEARWATER — Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers is running for the Pinellas County Commission.

Eggers, 56, joins a crowded field of nine other candidates looking to replace long-time Commissioner Susan Latvala, who announced in January she would not seek another term in her District 4 seat.

A Republican, Eggers served as Dunedin’s mayor for almost six years following six years as a city commissioner. He said Monday that he gained countywide experience serving on the Pinellas Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Pinellas Planning Council.

With the county emerging out of recession and a referendum on the Greenlight transportation plan looming in November, Eggers said it would be an exciting time to serve on the commission. He has two years left on his term as mayor.

“I will bring a fresh perspective to the commission,” he said. “It’s something I enjoy doing. I think the time is right to bring my background and experience.”

Eggers best known opponent for the seat that covers the northern part of Pinellas is likely to be former commissioner Neil Brickfield, a Republican who also has filed to run.
