— A bicyclist died from injuries sustained Monday after being struck by a motorist near the intersection of McMullen Booth Road and Curlew Road.

A Florida Highway Patrol press release sent out at 6:34 p.m. states that a 52-year-old bicyclist from Oldsmar was hit by a Chevy Silverado pickup truck operated by 23-year-old St. Petersburg resident Jeffrey Johnston.

FHP released the identity of the bicyclist as Mark Allen Lustfeldt in an updated media alert issued Monday at 9:33 p.m.

At approximately 4:47 p.m., Johnston was traveling southbound in the center lane of McMullen Booth approaching the intersection with Curlew and struck Lustfeldt riding eastbound on the north portion of the intersection in the crosswalk. The bicyclist traveled into the path of the truck, which traversed the intersection under a green traffic signal.

Lustfeldt sustained serious injuries and later died at nearby Mease Countryside Hospital.

Alcohol was not involved in the accident and no charges have been filed, according to the FHP press release.
