HUDSON — How sweet it is, Suncoast Harmony Chorus members say about the blend of voices of the 28-member group.

The Sweet Adelines International local chapter will celebrate its 27th anniversary next month.

The chorus would like to add more voices to the group, leaders say. West Pasco Chamber of Commerce conducted a recent ribbon cutting during an open house of the chorus’ new headquarters at CARES Rao Musunuru, M.D., Enrichment Center, 12417 Clock Tower Parkway. Hudson.

At the open house, the singers performed a sampling of songs that included “God Bless America,” “Rockin’ Robin,” “Shenandoah” and “Let There Be Peace.”

The women perform a cappella, four-part harmony music, barbershop style, Amy Riddle, the chorus’s director, explained. For women who would like to learn more, rehearsals take place at 7 p.m. each Tuesday at the CARES site.

Great friendships are forged at the group, Riddle said. An assistant principal at Land O’ Lakes High School, Riddle was choral director at Gulf High School in New Port Richey. Riddle also has earned certified director status from Sweet Adelines International.

The chorus is making plans for its 2014 show. “A Passion to Sing” will be performed Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey.

The group also performs for civic and charitable organizations, private groups, churches, community events and fundraisers. People can hire the entire group or quartets for company events, church socials, family reunions and other parties, according to the website.

“We are of varying ages and want to encourage young ladies who are considering joining our chorus,” spokeswoman Patty Ritter said. “We encourage anyone who is interested to come to our rehearsal and find out more about our chorus and barbershop singing.”
