NEW PORT RICHEY — When SPCA Suncoast officials pleaded for help from the community during a crisis this spring, residents came through with loads of donations. Now, SPCA Suncoast is planning some events to try to help return the favor.
The inaugural SPCA Neuter-A-thon is coming on Sunday, Aug. 24, at the shelter at 7734 Congress St.
Pet owners with male cats and dogs can set up appointments to have their pet neutered. The cost is $20 for cats and $45 for dogs.
The pet must be between eight weeks and 6 years old. The owner must provide proof of rabies shots.
For appointments, call SPCA Suncoast at (727) 849-1048, ext. 200, between noon and 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday before the Sunday event.
Or people can send Facebook messages to www.facebook.com/spcasuncoast.
SPCA also offers low-cost grooming for pets by appointment. The complete package includes shampoo, haircut, blow dry, ear plucking and nail trim.
Small dogs up to 25 pounds cost $35, while a medium-sized dog up to 50 pounds costs $45. Large dogs over 50 pounds cost $55. Information about care for long-haired breeds is available upon request.
A pet owner can choose a bath and nail trim only for a pet for $20. A nail trim alone costs $5.
Call (727) 849-1048, ext. 200, for appointments.
Meanwhile, plans are taking shape for the new Whiskers and Tails Costume Ball in October to benefit SPCA Suncoast. The Halloween-themed event will take place 7:30-11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave.
The evening includes costume and centerpiece contests, dinner, dancing and games.
Team Farrell is sponsoring the inaugural event. Tickets cost $50 per person or $85 per couple. Guests are required to dress in costumes.
