A new commander arrived last week to take the helm of Salvation Army Pasco Corps.

Capt. Kenneth A. Fagan is familiarizing himself with the many programs the charity offers. One of his first public appearances was at last week’s Peace Breakfast, which raised some $20,000 for the corps’ domestic violence program.

Fagan delivered the invocation and the benediction at the breakfast attended by nearly 100 guests.

“Lord, we pray this morning for those individuals who have suffered physical, verbal, psychological or emotional abuse by those who said they loved them,” Fagan said. “Lord we pray for them comfort and their recovered journey. May they find peace.”

Fagan described the DV shelter as a “place of refuge and safety.”

“Thank you for the staff who labor and love every day to help bring hope and healing into these broken lives and hearts.”

A third generation Salvationist, Fagan was born in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., on July 18, 1956. He grew up in Hyattsville, Md.

Fagan entered the Salvation Army School for Officer Training on Aug. 9, 1982, from the Prince Georges, Md.Corps. He was commissioned in the Servants of God session on June 3, 1984, and promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

On June 3, 1989, Fagan was promoted to the rank of captain. From June 1984 until September 1997, he served as commanding officer at Shelby, N.C.; Wilson, N.C.; Wilmington, N.C.; and Daytona Beach.

For the next 15 years, Fagan held various development positions to raise millions of dollars to assist those whose lives had been destroyed by disaster and poverty.

On April 16, 2012, Fagan became director of the Mission Station in Bonita Springs and given the rank of Sergeant. On Nov. 4, 2013, Fagan was reinstated as an officer with the rank of captain.

He is the father of Capt. Lynda Thornhill of Hendersonville, N.C., and firefighter Scott Fagan of St. Cloud. He has five grandchildren, Chase Thornhill, 14, Caleb Thornhill, 11, Ella Thornhill, 5, Kennedy Fagan, 4, and Kendan Fagan,1.

Fagan will be based at the Pasco Corps headquarters at 7745 Ridge Road. Contact him at (727) 815-8539 or kenneth.fagan@uss.salvationarmy,org.
