PR woman shoots armed intruder

Published:

An armed, masked man attempting to break into a Port Richey house Wednesday night was shot by a resident, then fled in a car before crashing into another home, deputies said.

The intruder, who was not identified by authorities, was hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot by the woman, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman’s boyfriend returned home after the incident and was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, deputies said.

About 11 p.m., the masked man with a handgun knocked on the front door of 6912 Alta Vista St. and demanded entry, investigators said. When the woman refused to open the door, the man shattered a front window and began to crawl through it, investigators said.

The woman ran to her bedroom, grabbed her boyfriend’s handgun and fired multiple rounds at the intruder, deputies said. He fled in a white Chevrolet Impala, driving west on Alta Vista before crashing into a house at the end of the block, on the 9800 block of El Camino Real Avenue, deputies said.

The burglary suspect, a known gang member, was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound, deputies said.

The boyfriend, 21-year-old Steven Brown, was arrested on the marijuana charge as deputies investigated at his home. He was taken to the Pasco County detention center in Land O’ Lakes.

The woman was not identified by the sheriff’s office.

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco was scheduled to meet with the media to discuss the case.
