LAND O’ LAKES -

Gulf Highlands Elementary School has a new principal, and Pine View Elementary is in the market for one.

The Pasco County School Board voted Tuesday to transfer Pine View’s principal, Judy Cosh, to Gulf Highlands effective Wednesday.

Cosh takes over for Kara Smucker, who was transferred to a job as principal coach at district offices. As principal at Gulf Highlands, Smucker helped improve the school from an F grade to a C in the state’s accountability system.

Cosh has worked for the school district since 1991, starting as a teacher at Fox Hollow Elementary. She also taught at Hudson Elementary and Calusa elementaries before being named assistant principal at Chasco Elementary in 2006.

She became principal at Pine View Elementary in 2011.

Cosh holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership, both from the University of South Florida.

Although the school board just approved Cosh’s transfer this week, the move has been in the works for several weeks.
