Pasco opens cold-weather shelters tonight

Several shelters are opening at 6:30 p.m. today in Pasco County due to the cold weather coming into the Tampa Bay area.

Lows tonight will dip into the low- to mid-40s, and even colder in northern and inland areas. Highs Tuesday will struggle to reach 60 under sunny skies, with lows in the upper-30s to low-40s.

The Pasco County Office of Emergency Management also reminds people to take care of their pets, children and the elderly during this cold spell.

These shelters are available to help:

The Christian Church, 34921 Chancey Road, Zephyrhills. (813) 810-8670. Open Monday and Tuesday. Families welcome.

Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Drive, New Port Richey. (727) 597-0428. Open Tuesday and Wednesday. No families.

Holy Ground Shelter, 8835 Denton Ave., Hudson. (727) 863-9123 Families welcome.

Families with children needing should call the Homeless Coalition office at (727) 842-8605 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., or after hours call Metropolitan Ministries at (727) 937-3268.
