NPR man in critical condition after crash

Published:

A New Port Richey man is in critical condition today after suffering a medical emergency and crashing in Pasco County.

Around 10 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said Joseph Smith, 72, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus westbound in the outside lane of State Road 54, approaching the intersection of Virginia City Drive in New Port Richey, when he lost control.

Smith drove onto the shoulder before striking a curb and crashing into a county bus bench, rotating and colliding with other landscaping and concrete curbing, the FHP said.

Smith was admitted to Medical Center of Trinity with critical injuries, the FHP said.
