New principal will greet students at Bayonet Point Middle

— Bayonet Point Middle School students will see a new principal when they return to school Aug. 18.

Shelly Carrino, an assistant principal at Wesley Chapel High, is taking over the top job at Bayonet Point, succeeding Mike Asbell, who retired.

Carrino began her new assignment Monday, even though technically the Pasco County School Board won’t vote on her promotion until its meeting Tuesday morning.

She has worked for the school district since 2000, when she was hired as a mathematics teacher at Wesley Chapel High. She became an assistant principal at that school in 2007.

Carrino holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education-mathematics from Baldwin Wallace College, in Ohio, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Florida.
