Inline speed skating championships in PR

— USA Roller Sports’ Southern Region Qualifying Inline Speed Skating Championships is coming to Port Richey this Saturday and Sunday.

SpinNations Skating Center will host the two-day spectacle that attracts athletes of all ages and skill level.

According to Angela Serini of the Florida Skating Academy, over 180 skaters are expected to compete for the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 National Championships in Lincoln, Neb. this July.

Races begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and continue until 6:30 p.m. The action picks back up at 8 a.m. on Sunday before wrapping up at 1:30 p.m.

Both days begin with singles events in all divisions, followed by relays. Novice Division entrants will compete on Sunday.

The USA Roller Sports event is sponsored by Pasco County and it has been held at SpinNations since 2004. The public is invited to attend and tickets cost $5 at the door. The center’s concession stand will be serving food and drinks.
