Four-legged swimmers take dip in NPR kiddie pool

Suncoast News staff report

NEW PORT RICHEY — With temperatures and humidity staying higher than normal, some 50 dogs got to cool off at the recent Poochie Paddle.

On a Sunday morning, New Port Richey Recreation and Aquatic Center officials reserved the kiddie pool for swimmers of the four-legged variety.

With teeth clenched in her old English bulldog underbite, Marlee shook off excess water out of her fur as she emerged from the pool.

It was the first dip into the pool for a 6-month old Springer spaniel named Cody, so owner K.C. Quarett of New Port Richey had to coax his pet into the water.

Jennie, an 8-year-old retriever, enjoyed fetching a flying disc.

Mercedes did not want to get her feet wet, so owner Gary Coad of New Port Richey carried the 3-year-old rat terrier on his shoulder around the edge of the pool.

Dotty Harbison traveled all the way from Thonotosassa to treat her two dogs, Bubba and Louie.
