NEW PORT RICHEY — A local health club and fitness center, Cor Fitness, has gone through a major transition in less than a week and it’s not even finished yet.
A few weeks ago, members and visitors began to see signs around the facility stating that “if you’re favorite piece of equipment is missing don’t worry, it is getting some TLC for the new location.”
Noel Davidson, who’s been with Cor Fitness since 2011 and handles much of the center’s public relations and marketing, said the move was prompted when the lease expired at the former location at 4900 U.S. 19.
“We’d rather have our own establishment, our own place with everything brand new,” Davidson said In an interview that took place just a few days before the big relocation.
Essentially it’s a fresh start in a new place, Davidson said about the new location at Ridge Road andCongress Street in Port Richey.
“We’re definitely hitting hard and fast,” Davidson commented. “We settled on moving about two months ago but we didn’t have a space yet.” Negotiations continued until a couple of weeks ago, Davidson recalled.
There’s been a growing interest in the activities of fitness centers throughout the U.S., according to an annual survey of the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association. As of 2012 , the industry collected $21.8 billion in revenues with more than 50 million members.
About six people were able to come out to help to move the weights and heavy equipment, Davidson said.
“It was a major undertaking to reshape the building, cut down walls, etc. and the move was not easy but it went smoothly and the new facility is fantastic,” said Bob DePrez, senior representative of the new center.
Several gym members expressed satisfaction with the new facility, including Rafaela Ramos. “My daughter is an instructor here and I like it. It’s very nice,” Ramos said as she was leaving a shiny, new treadmill.
Many visitors are most impressed by the indoor aquatic area which houses a long heated pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
Davidson said the grand opening celebration is coming on Saturday, July 19.
“It’s going to be a huge family friendly event with a bounce house, face painting, mini fitness competitions, vendors and even a fundraiser for the Red Apple School” which helps train mentally challenged adults, Davidson said.
