Published:

A bystander rescued a man from a garage fire Thursday afternoon in Shady Hills, Pasco Fire Rescue said.

Fire Rescue received a report of the fire at 16628 Dalberg Drive at 3:10 p.m. Before they arrived, a 57-year old bystander had seen the fire and ran into the burning garage and helped the 56-year old male inside escape, a report said.

The victim was transported by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert with burns to his face and legs, Fire Rescue said. The bystander suffered minor smoke inhalation and refused treatment.

One dog was dead at the scene, while another escaped, Fire Rescue said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
