Pasco inmate charged with choking deputy

Published:

LAND O’ LAKES — A jail inmate attempted to choke a Pasco sheriff’s deputy at the Land O’ Lakes jail on Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office.

Joshua Patrick Moore, 21, of New Port Richey, has been charged with attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Moore is accused of grabbing a deputy’s shirt collar and pushing his handcuffs against the deputy’s throat, according to an arrest report. Moore was pushed to the floor and began swinging his arms, striking another deputy in the chest and thigh, the report said.

Moore has been in jail since a December 2011 arrest on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon. In March 2011, he received an additional charge of introducing or possessing contraband in a detention facility.

Moore remains in jail on a $67,500 bond.
