The reasoning in Linda Blake's letter to the editor — that we all must buy health insurance because those of us who are insured are paying for those who do not — is deeply flawed.
What she fails to take into account is that a substantial number of those who do not pay for health care will continue not to pay. They are either illegals and will not want to come under scrutiny or they are already on welfare and will continue to be on the public rolls. They will continue to go to emergency rooms as they do now and get free medical care.
So what is the bottom line of having mandatory health insurance? We will be forced to buy a product we may not want, we will have lost our freedom of choice and nothing changes for the uninsured who can't pay. They will remain that way and still get free health care on my dime.
What will be next if we are forced to buy health care? Broccoli on Tuesdays? Spinach on Thursdays? Sardines every Friday?
It is a slippery dangerous slope to allow the federal government to "FORCE" anyone to buy a product of any kind.

Too negative
There are many open wounds in my great country, America. Daniel Callaghan seems to love keeping these wounds bleeding and inflamed, just like quite a few other groups.
If the Krewe of Chasco bothers him so much, as he wrote in his "Only in Florida" letter to the editor, he should try living somewhere else.
Most of the opinions Callaghan expresses are negative. He should get a new outlook on Pasco County or why live here?

Failed history
In his letter to the editor, Daniel Callaghan accuses the Krewe of Chasco, a group of non-Indians dressed in Indian garb, of "un-American behavior."
He fails U.S. history. The Boston Tea Party was not un-American. I don't know anyone in the Krewe of Chasco, but they know U.S. history.
God bless America. And by the way, the 2012 Chasco Fiesta parade was the best ever.
