A good Samaritan helped a 20-year-old woman get out of her sinking car after she crashed into a retention pond in Dunedin on Thursday, deputies said.

Bailey Hartman, of Largo, was driving south on Belcher Road near Solon Avenue when another vehicle made a U-turn in front of her and cut her off, Pinellas County deputies said.

Hartman swerved to avoid a crash but lost control and went into the pond.

Joseph Isabelle, 46, of Palm Harbor, saw the crash while driving by and pulled over, deputies said.

Isabelle removed his shirt and cellphone and jumped into the water. He helped Hartman out of her window and to the bank about 25 feet away, deputies said.

Hartman and Isabelle were not injured.

A dive team responded to recover the vehicle, which was completely submerged, deputies said.

The vehicle that cut off Hartman's car was described as a black two-door, possibly a Chevrolet, deputies said.
