October traffic up 12% at St. Pete-Clearwater airport

Traffic at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport increased by 12 percent in October, compared to the same month last year, officials said today.

September traffic at the airport was also up by 8 percent compared to last year.

So far this year, the airport has experienced 4 percent growth, thanks in part to increased service from Allegiant Airlines and Vision Airlines, officials said.

Allegiant has provided service to the airport for 6 years, offering non-stop service to 24 cities. Vision offers non-stop service to Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss.

"Non-stop, low-cost service combined with the airport's ease and convenience is a winning formula for Allegiant's continued success with the traveling public," said airport director Noah Lagos. "In 2013, we expect to see new destinations and added seat capacity."
