Council of North County Neighborhoods' essay contest winners named

East Lake High School students Christina Abraham, 10th grade; and Jennifer Mourousas, 11th grade, each received $300 as first-place winners of the Council of North County Neighborhoods' 2012 essay contest. Lyndee Mansfiled, 10th grade; and Malissa Alli, 11th grade, each received $100 for second place and Steven Plaskett, 10th grade; and Danielle Zeron, 11th grade, each received $50 for placing third.

Brandon Data, third grade, Brook Creek Elementary; Taki Tsetsekas, fourth grade, and Emily Jones, fifth grade, both from Cypress Woods Elementary School; and Shane Robinson, seventh grade, Carwise Middle School each received $100 scholarships as first-place winners.

Middle and elementary school students each received a $50 scholarship for winning second and third place. These winners are: third-graders Sonia Mithani, second place; and Irina Kravtsova, third place; fourth-graders Luke Morrow, second place; and Dana Libert, third place; fifth-graders, Noelle Bahar, second place; Rachel Patella, third place, all from Cypress Woods Elementary School; seventh-graders Natalie Diola, second place; and Lily Kilbert, third place, both from Carwise Middle School.

Tess Polites, a second-grader at Brooker Creek Elementary, received $25 for honorable mention.

The essay topic for grades three to five and six through eight was: "If you were one of the many deer that roam the East Lake area, tell us about your deer family and what would a typical day consist of for you?"

The essay topic for grades nine through 10 and 11 through 12 was: "Identify a problem, economic or social, in the East Lake Community. What are the major factors contributing to the problem? Explain how the problem can be resolved."

In addition to cash awards, Gatti Town Pizza and Fun in Clearwater provided two $50 dinner certificates and a $5 game card for each contestant.
