To help as many local families prepare for school, the Florida Governmental Utility Authority will be collecting school supplies to deliver to local schools beyond the first day of the school year, Monday, Aug. 16
A donation box is available in the FGUA customer service office, 6915 Perrine Ranch Road, New Port Richey, just west of the intersection with Seven Springs Boulevard.
Items sought include No. 2 pencils, crayons, black or blue pens and lined notebook paper. Each of these basic items can be used by any grade level and will be donated to local schools that will distribute them to students who are unable to bring their own items.
Call 727-372-0115 for more information.
Times2 Outfitters, 4764 U.S. 19, New Port Richey, in Gulf Harbors Plaza, will hold its annual backpack giveaway starting at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Aug. 14.
The consignment store for teens and young adults is giving away new and "pre-loved" backpacks, as well as school supplies and free name-brand clothing. Organizers hope to give away school supplies and clothes to more than 300 people.
This year's giveaway will be on a first-come, first-served basis; a line at the door is expected when it opens, so arrive early. The event is for middle school and high school ages only; students must bring student ID or upcoming class schedule to show the grade they are about to begin.
