A school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash Friday morning after the driver passed out apparently due to a medical condition, Clearwater police said.

The crash occurred at 8:20 a.m. at Sunset Point Road at World Parkway, police said.

The bus was carrying five students and two adult bus aides to McMullen Booth Elementary School, police said. None were injured and they were taken to school.

Police said the bus was heading westbound on Sunset Point Road at a low rate of speed when it hit a white Kia SUV. It then hit a Toyota Camry.

The 60-year-old bus driver, Stephen Sandford, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said Latoya Pierce, 29, of Clearwater, the driver of the Kia who is pregnant, was hospitalized as a precaution. Jessica Taylor of St. Petersburg, the driver of the Camry, refused medical treatment.

The crash is still under investigation.
