NEW PORT RICHEY — A car that crashed into a power pole on Floramar Terrace caught fire Friday morning, but the driver escaped without serious injuries in the one-vehicle accident, the Florida Highway Patrol and Pasco Fire Rescue reported.

The accident, which happened around 11 a.m., knocked down power lines, causing Floramar Terrace west of U.S. 19 to be closed in both directions, FHP reported. About three hours later, traffic was still backed up on the street, which is the only entrance to the Gulf Harbors neighborhood, but one lane was being opened intermittently to allow vehicles through.

No one in the accident required transportation to a hospital, FHP reported. Further details were not available.
