DADE CITY — Jack Mariano is the new chairman of the Pasco County commissioners.

Mariano, who represents District 5, replaces longtime commissioner Ted Schrader as chairman.

Commissioner Pat Mulieri made the motion for Mariano to become the new chairman and the vote was unanimous. He is in his third term as a commission member.

The commission voted to have Commissioner Kathryn Starkey serve as vice chair.

“I just want to thank you for the privilege to serve as your chairman this past year,” Schrader said. “We obviously had some new challenges with the selection of a new county administrator that I’m excited and confident she’s going to lead us forward.

“We obviously had a very challenging budget … all in all the board worked well together and I’m grateful for that and it’s been my privilege and honor to serve you.”
